Not really. No more than what would be with a fresh scrape on the forearm. The photo looks a bit bad, because that section always ends up looking a little dark. Plus, the scab doesn't cover an area near the tip, yet, so it shows as white where that occurs.

KPC i'm sure you have impeccable hygiene, but as soon as I saw this photo I immediately thought Staphylococcus aureus infection. This is a gram positive bacteria that is native flora on our skin especially around the nares. If i was your local friend I would swab your blister site and culture it on a Blood or EMB agar dish and I'd have confirmation of this organism in 48hrs or less. Go visit your primary, ask for a topical prescription of clindamycin, and Bactrim DS. Eugenol is an excellent antiseptic for these kinds of wounds since it damages the bacterial cell membrane. While you're there insist on having him grab a culture sample if your insurance pays for it. There are few bacteria that respond well to OTC ointments, if anything these OTC ointments are aiding their resistance to our antibiotics. Bacteria have a separate structure of DNA known as a plasmid, within the plasmid codes the genes for antibiotic resistance, neosporin's active ingredient is neomycin, Staph is resistant to neomycin. Take the recommendation or don't. Good luck

o.o Thanks, I'll have to have this looked into during the week, though. Only the emergency room is open, on base, during the weekend.

Just got back from a visit to the doctor. They removed the scab and are having me use an ointment as it re-heals. It's not going to be pretty, on the left side. Sad but oh well, it was part of the risk I had accepted. The scab Removal was recommended by them , so they could see the tissue beneath. A little disappointed but maybe I'll get lucky and it'll heal well enough. I still love the size, I just can't do anything with it yet. The timing is sucky, because I just snagged myself a boyfriend, last Thursday.

Kittenpaste- Wow, with all the difficulty you've had, it's hard to imagine you feel it was worth it.

Can you get mupirocin? It's prescription only, but neosporin has been shown to allow MRSA to grow - not that you have MRSA, but I just think neosporin has had its day & recent studies are showing it is not effective against enough strains. It's not as strong as mupirocin, which kills mrsa and other strains of bacteria.

I'm finally starting to regrow what looks like "skin" (mucosal membrane), on the head. It's only covering part of what was lost, so far. Still looks bad. I might take photo of it, in the morning, to show how bad it is.

Wow it's been quite awhile. A pic would be great to see how it's coming about. Do you regret doing it? What does Dr. Cho say?

It doesn't hurt anymore but the healing has gone soooo slow. I can't masturbate either... causes the area to bleed.

Sorry to hear the progress is slow.
I hope you continue to heal.
