I found this article and it is the only study I could find comparing different PMMA fillers: A comparison of commercially available polymethylmethacrylate-based soft tissue fillers. Dermatol Surg. 2008 Jun;34 Suppl 1:S48-52. doi: 10.1111/j.1524-4725.2008.34242.x. I can't get the full article but I would like to see the analysis of the PMMA products. Here's what I could find in regards to the study... "PMMA microsphere soft tissue filler products from the United States, Europe, Brazil, and Canada were compared with respect to size, homogeneity/irregularity, surface smoothness/roughness, and the presence or absence of sediment and particulate debris. RESULTS Marked differences with respect to PMMA particle morphology and related particle characteristics from a variety of products were found. Of note, some products demonstrated potentially concerning significant variability in particle size and irregular morphology." Are there any studies or proof Dr.C has offered to the members of this board in regard to quality of metacrill or linnea safe? To further the discussion, I would like to include a response I received from Dr. Lemper. I asked him about the quality of metacrill and linnea safe. I remember reading in the complication post that the Dr. mentioned New Plastic was considered almost as pure as Artefill, which is why I'm surprised by his response: The only PMMA product outside the US that is close to the quality of FDA approved Artefill is called Artecoll in China (or ArteSense in Canada). I am not sure what the price point is. I would not consider any other PMMA filler-especially from South America and Mexico. Plenty of severe problems have been reported there due to impure PMMA. Ultimately, I would like to see some evidence that metacrill or linnea safe are clean/safe. Hopefully Wade will get back to me about this. The carrier is collegen so I am not sure what this would mean as the product settles. I figure it was worth inquiring about. For someone only looking for .5-.75 Inch gain, the higher cost might be manageable since less product is used. Lastly, I've requested lab results for all three products that Dr. C offers. This way, a direct comparison can be made between products. Wade mentioned to me a couple weeks ago that Dr.C will be gathering and presenting the info together for patients to compare. In this generation of artefill, the particles are all the same size, which diminished the side effects in prior generations (see the other thread I just made about a visit to a plastic surgeon who does a lot of artefill).
