Penile cancer is pretty rare, but the article doesn't say how they made the connection between the cancer and the enlargement procedure. There's a good chance that these problems were independent of one another. Also, with all that we've read about PMMA, good or bad, I don't recall seeing any connection to cancer. I think the takeaway here is that if something like a cut happens you shouldn't neglect it. The reason why PMMA is an excellent approach is the ability to allow capillaries and blood vessels. From the pictures you can clearly see the blood supply. Olive oil does not have the ability to allow blood vessels because there's no immediate response by the body for collagen formation and blood supply. The olive oil caused an asphyxiation of the surrounding tissue and the body did not respond to the lipid in the olive oil. It also lead to the cancer because the tissues were deprived of oxygen. As for the injury to the penis, if there's no blood supply, how do you get healing cells and nutrients to heal it when you have olive oil? Life is in the blood. No blood supply to any organ or tissue will result in death of the organ or tissue. I've been here for almost 3 years and done a lot of research before I take the plunge. Miracle7x6.5 touched on a few examples, but they aren't nearly all the examples that could be listed. All this being said, no one disputes that Phalloplasty (including PMMA penile bioplasty) is experimental by nature. This forum continues to investigate all methods and their respective success/failure profiles. As far as we know, as SO had elaborated, There is not a documented case of PMMA causing cancer and it has been used for many years in the body in general... It is possible PMMA MAY one day cause cancer in some way, but there is no point in causing a concern to people on this board who had PMMA in their penises. It is a done deal, why rain on our parade. Post procedure, one can expect swelling and as the collagen process takes time to complete, a variation in size. Biopsies have been performed on PMMA created collagen and I can assure you that it is indeed collagen that is formed around the microsphereric beads. There are photos on this site of these biopsies. I have not experienced any change in size for months. Also, quality of Erection varies greatly for most men. Code: Only one doctor in Mexico does it and I don't think Mexican standards of medicine are acceptable to North Americans. This statement is unfounded and untrue. There is more than one doctor in Mexico practicing penile bioplasty with PMMA. Medical Tourism is popular for a reason. The best medical care I've ever received was in Brazil. There are many reports of PMMA used in the penis from Brazil that date back 5+ years with no evidence of cancer of any sort. There is a risk down the road of a foreign body reaction but it is a small risk. Also, even in PMMA enhanced patients, a localized infection can and has spread to the penile tissues. When the infection is cleared, so is the infected collagen matrix and penile tissues. This man didn't seek medical attention and injected olive oil. Even Popeye would know better. That said, there is a risk with every Phalloplasty procedure and I advise everyone to proceed with extreme caution and research thoroughly before embarking into unknown territory blindly. This isn't an indictment against PMMA by American doctors as a whole necessarily. And remarkably, there have been physicians reported here to have had little-to-no knowledge of the efficacy or mechanism behind PMMA. And as a matter of fact, PMMA (Artefill) is approved for facial filler in the U.S. I hope that those who choose not to undergo PMMA do so because they realize that they don't have any real size issue, and that the current "experimental" state of Phalloplasty doesn't justify pursuing such risky endeavors. No one is denying that there aren't any risks, but as Miracle7x6.5 points out clearly, no medical procedure is without risk. Asbestos does not cause cancer, it induces a reaction in our bodies (including inflammation) that causes the cancer. It's our bodies reaction to the foreign material that is unfortunately the culprit - not the material itself. This is one of the reasons I'm going to get my lump removed, but it is causing my entire penis to be swollen, almost 24x7 I think usually the PMMA swelling is only after sex ... so I'm not as worried about the steady state of PMMA. There seems to be a report here that justifies this here For PMMA patients ... I wonder if it would be prudent to have a Urologist check your junk once a year -- just for safety sake?
