I had come down with some virus and a couple of days later I woke up and my penis was swollen. Nothing like this had ever happened. I emailed Dr. C and he recommended that I try prednisone and to get with my local Dr. I had some prednisone (from prior back issues) and started taking it. It worked really well and over the course of a week the swelling went down. However, over the next week, the swelling came back. I did another course of prednisone and it worked again. Then again it came back. I did some research and read that some medications can help by reducing the bodies response to a foreign filler and my Dr. prescribed me a macrolide group 1 antibiotic. It seemed to work for the first 10 days, the swelling reduced, not all the way, but it was comfortable and didn't look crazy. Then after 10 days it's swollen up again, think like its in a penis pump swollen.
I've been sick before over the last 8-10 years and no issues. The only thing I changed is this year I started the carnivore way of eating.
I've got another dose of Prednisone, and it should help for a few days, but not sure where to go from there. I'm glad I found the forums and will start searching like crazy. Any and all advice is appreciated. I'm hoping for a non-surgical solution. I guess as a last resort I need to go see a Urologist?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Also other than the prednisone, what other medications were you taking as you mentioned antibiotics? Really curious to find out what medications you may have been taken that may have contributed to this?
Yes I went to a Dr., but doctor did not name a specific virus, and I was prescribed Amoxicillin - Clavulanate for the virus. Since then I have also taken prednisone 3 different times (i'm currently on it now). My symptoms were fever and congestion. He prescribed Clarithromycin to see if it would help reduce my bodies response to the foreign material and it seemed to work for 10 days, but then swelling returned.

Ibuprofen
I'm not sure, I'll ask. I did email Dr. C, he recommended the prednisone, but didn't mention the other two.

Despite having become sick over the years, not all viruses act the same, nor does your body necessarily respond to all of them the same way. It isn't a reach to believe that whatever you contracted may have triggered a sudden onset of inflammation (which would best describe the swelling you exhibit).
While I believe working with your Doctors in conjunction with Dr. C, there are some questions I personally have.
(1)How far removed are you from your initial sickness, and are there any lingering symptoms from that?
(2)Outside of just swelling, does it exhibit any pain, warmth, or redness (I don't have before photos, so I can't tell if any discoloration is present, but from the looks of it, the coloration does not seem unusual), even if intermittently?
(3) Do you have before photos, or at the very least, can you measure or gauge the amount it has swollen versus your pre-swollen penis.
(4) Can it get fully Erect, and if so, are there any notable issues there (like discomfort, etc.).
The fact that the treatment options are working, although you seemingly have to continue taking them, tells me this could very well be a lingering inflammation triggered by a specific kind of virus, and you had the misfortune of having your body react in this way. For this reason I believe it will eventually subside. I don't know for certain. If you can share with us that additional information I requested, perhaps others (i.e. lurkers) who may have had similar experiences can chime in (or message you privately), and at the very least, can give us a better overall picture of what we're dealing with.
Between the photos, the circumstances you've described, and the effectiveness of the treatment protocol, I'm personally not alarmed from the outside looking in, but I totally understand why you would be. I would continue to hear out Dr. C's advice, and unless he says so, I feel like any secondary or tertiary treatments (someone mentioned Kenalog or DMSO) ought to be set aside for now.
Please keep us posted!

Thank you for the reply. I already feel better having found this group again. This group is what originally led me to Dr. C.
I'll respond to the questions.
1. My initial sickness ended around November 15th (noticeable fever gone).
2. No, outside of swelling there is no pain, warmth, or redness. At the peak of swelling I would say uncomfortable at night, but not painful if that makes sense.
3. If I can find my old account on here I would have before pictures from years ago. Don't have any handy.
4. Yes, I still experience erections and there are no noticeable issues.
It responds really well to prednisone. I think, like you mentioned, that I have some lingering virus that is causing this reaction and the key will be getting the right treatment for the virus.
Thanks
