I love my Vitamix. But for juicing some things.... not so much. I purchased a Super Angel Juicer and it is the bomb! My kids love smoothies in the Vitamix though. Some almond milk, frozen organic fruits and a touch of honey. It's delicious.

Bump on the Vitamix, had mine for about a year and a half. My guess is I'll probably leave it to somebody in my will. I'm sure it will outlive me...

On why it costs so much?

It's American made by a company that has done nothing else for around 70 years. Mega powerful, it just pulverizes the food. It comes with an ironclad 7 year warranty. When I ordered mine they gave me an extra 8th year for nothing...didn't ask or anything. He said I was his last sale of the day and thanked me for my patience, which wasn't being tested at all. I had asked for a reconditioned one in red and it had taken him a few extra minutes to make that happen.

I agree with carljohnson that the Ninja System is probably the best low cost option.

Vitamix sells fully warranteed reconditioned models from there demonstrations for a reduced price. They have a 3 month payment plan as well....

I clean mine by dropping in 3 drops of dishwashing fluid and filling the container with water... I turn it on for a minute and hot soapy water fills it up... it is it's own dishwasher.

Best investment I've ever made for my health.

So I saw this mentioned a couple of times in threads throughout the forum, and was curious so I looked it up. I was shocked to see Vitamix was a blender that cost in the ballpark of $400! I was under the impression that maybe your $75-$100 blenders would be more than satisfactory for drink preparations, so what makes a blender like Vitamix (or similar competitor brands) worth the purchase at such a high price?

A little background: I'm not terribly overweight, but I could use to lose 15-25lbs, both for tone and a chance to cut back the fat pad down there. I have trouble finding time to eat healthy, or ways to eat healthy. A vegetable based diet seems worth trying, and blenders could be very effective in making it an easy & fun way to go about it.

So, my question to members who are familiar, - is a blender like Vitamix (or any comparably priced & quality blender like a Blendtec) worth the cost, and if so, why? And also, are there any lesser priced blenders that can compete?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Skeptical One

I originally posted about the vitamix ... i really am blown away with what it can do.

Before vitamix i would have a meal replacement chocolate drink from the grocery store.

Now, I blend up a bannana, a cup of frozen blueberries, some very healthly smoothie mix, and perhaps some almond milk.

I've been losing a lot of weight, and it's helping with my current fatigue from my h.pylori.

I highly recommend this thing..

plus I'm sure it can make monster alcoholic drinks ...

I'm no expert but here's my .02

I saw a demo for this thing at Costco and thought 'yeah right, I don't care how good it is I don't need a $400 blender'...but the sample was really good and it was as much veggies as it was fruit, and no sugar or yogurt, just produce and ice. Thought nothing of it.

Six months later my boss gets one and wont stop talking about it. He has a 'green drink' daily. To convince me he started bringing me one daily...I was sold. I read up online and saw they stand behind the product and they seem to last forever. A few friends have the Ninja (about $100 I think), they love it but things don't taste the same to me.

Benefits over a cheaper one is really just the motor strength I believe. This thing can make hot soup with no heating element...just from the blade spinning so fast. I don't give a shit about soup but this means it blends the ice just right and quickly before you get a slushy. My friend owned a bar and they used Blendtec, they are the only other brand that is in the same league from what he said. Clean up is simple and done in 2 min. I used to hate cleaning the blender each time...but this one spins so fast you just fill 1/2 way with hot water, and 1 drop of dish soap. Blend for a minute or two, rinse in cold and you're done.

Honestly, I've never felt or looked this good in my whole life. If I elaborated you'd think I had something to gain by convincing others to try this my results sound like an infomercial. But its 100% free. I know 7 people doing it and all feel the same. Its a bit of a commitment but worth ever single bit of it. This ends for me the day before I leave for Dr. C!
